NDAMBUKI’S PROFILE
Ndambuki Muthusi Felix is a third year student at Kenyatta University pursuing a Bachelor of Education Arts (Mathematics and Business). If you thought he is just another ordinary young man, then I bet you are wrong. Read more about him just to discover the truth about him...
Ndambuki hails from a single parented family being a third born in a family of three. He has been brought up by his mother. He has therefore not had to drink from the father’s cup of love. This does not make him any less a person. Through his schooling he has had to meet with many challenges especially centered on the finances. He had to drop out of school in class six to go and work as a casual for payment in a bid to supplement his mother’s efforts to meet the family’s daily needs and at the same time because they could not raise money for his fees. After staying out for a while, his sister took him to her house and from there he resumed school in class seven. His sister who was married at this time did this not because she was well off but for the mere reason that her situation was a little better off and more so she was just touched by the situation of his brother.
He sat his KCPE examination in 2000 and scored 541 marks out of the possible 700.though he had qualified to join secondary school, this did not come true for he was not able to raise any money for fees. He went back to school at class eight in 2001. He sat the exam this time scoring 363 marks out of the possible 500. Here again was a trying moment since as the case was the previous year; the family was not in a position to take him to school. Through the intervention of a cousin of his, he raised four thousand shillings which was comparatively little. He joined a village school going by the name Mukuyuni Secondary school. During his admission day things were not as easy as you may think. Ndambuki had a lone pair of uniform. He had to borrow some of the requisites such as plates, and, just to mention a few. These he had to return after he had presented for admission. Throughout form one he did not pay any money and thus at the close of the year he was in arrears ranging about eighteen thousand. The mother would work for as little as twenty shillings and would bring this to him at school as pocket money. This was the money she earned from carrying loads of firewood. From there on he was assisted to get bursaries by the school head teacher who was very understanding and identified with his situation.
In second term form two, he became the vice captain and the Christian union chairperson. Though he became the CU chairperson he was not really saved. He later got born again during this period in time. At this point in time he started praying for his family and surprisingly not long, his prayers were answered. A brother of his who was not employed got a job in Nairobi and this was a therapy to the family since from his earning though little he would send something small at home occasionally. It was at form three that he started to put more effort in his studies since he realised he just had to do well in school in order that his future is better. To him getting a textbook was a problem since even the school itself had very few in stock. He also advanced in his prayer life in that he now started waking up for morning devotions. He recalls that he would read up to late in the night using a tin lamp until he developed a problem with the eyes due to the flickering light of the tin lamp.
When he sat his indexing exam he managed a B (plain) of 66 points a score that had not been witnessed in the school before. When he sat his final exam in form four he did well emerging the first in his school and third in the division. He managed this performance although they had not cleared the syllabus. Even to date Ndambuki stays with his sister something he considers to be just but a gesture of thanksgiving for what the sister did to him when he was in dire need.
After form four he worked in a wholesale in Nairobi for six months but from thereon he moved to teaching in primary school. He remained in teaching till he joined the university in 2007. When he joined in first year his HELB delayed and hence he was forced to pay the fees from his own money for a whole week he stayed in KU without any money. He pays his fees from his HELB and CDF bursary. Through managing his HELB he has managed to buy shares with the Cooperative Bank of Kenya.
Ministry
After his form four he could not attend church for one year due to the busy schedule he had especially as he worked in the wholesale. He started preaching while in high school. In KU he has had an opportunity to preach in most of KUCU’s units. He has preached widely during missions, open air meetings and revivals as well. Ndambuki is gifted in singing and he loves praise and worship. He joined KUCU choir especially because his close friend Munywoki was in the choir. He currently serves as the In reach in charge.
Social life
Ndambuki has it that his social life has been a challenge since he has not found a person to whom he can confide with as pertains his feelings and views of life. This is of course as it concerns those of the opposite gender. He feels that as of now he is not ripe for a fiancé. For him relationships are there to stay and that they are normal only that you need to tackle them through prayer. “Feeling it is normal and managing it is self control” is all he says.
His take on KUCU
To him KUCU has been a steppingstone to making him a person he had never thought he would be. From serving I n KUCU and being an active member all through he now has confidence that he can pastor a church effectively besides managing to manage a large group. He has in short had to learn group dynamics. He has obtained administration skills and is now a confident man. He has been nurtured and has grown spiritually from this dear mother “KUCU”. His motivation has been drawn from brethren in the various committees and subcommittees as well as from a cousin of his who fellowships with A.I.C.
Career Prospects
A part from doing his job as a teacher, he wishes that God lays a burden on him to preach to students in high schools. He looks forward to being effective minister of the word to these student since if a good foundation is laid for them at this stage then when they come to campus it will be possible for them to grow the more and to cause impact to other through missions or otherwise.
To God be all the glory. Amen.
